Your records matter.

Here's why:
$100,000+
What one slip-and-fall claim can pay out. A Landscape Ontario officer put the average payout at well over $100,000.3 Your records are your side of the story.
When your records get tested:
Example 1 · A billing dispute
4 a.m.

"Did you actually come out?"

Send a time-stamped visit report with every invoice. No more arguing about visits.

How it works on the job
  • The situation: you plow a lot at 4 a.m. The property manager arrives at 9, sees new snow, and asks whether you came out at all.
  • What Snowmark shows: your arrival and finish times, the GPS location, before and after photos, and that hour's Environment Canada weather.
  • What you do: attach the report to your invoice. The record answers the question, including that you came out when your contract trigger (for example, 5 cm) was hit.

Example 2 · A slip-and-fall claim
60 days

The slip-and-fall notice window

In Ontario, a claim notice can land on you within 60 days. Your records, ready in one tap.1

More about the rule
  • What it requires: written notice of the claim within 60 days, with the date, time and location.
  • Who can get it: the property owner, or the snow contractor hired to clear the site.
  • If you get it: you must pass a copy to the owner who hired you.
  • What it means: you'll need that day's records fast.

From Canadian courts

Two real cases. Two outcomes.

When the log won
4:47 a.m.3:00 p.m.5:30 p.m.8:00 p.m.

The snow contractor's daily log showed when it salted the lot on the day of the fall.

✓ Case dismissed
See what happened
  • What happened: a slip-and-fall claim was made against Village Mall. As was its practice, the snow contractor logged its daily activity, including the day of the incident.
  • What the court found: "a system was in place that was adequate to respond to the risk." Even though the salting "ultimately [was] not effective", it was "a practical response to the conditions."
  • What it means: the log let the contractor show what it did and when. The claim was dismissed.

Hawkins v. Village Mall Shopping Centre (N.L.), as described by Moodie Mair Walker LLP in Landscape Ontario, 2019.2
Ontario, 2025
✗ Both found liable

A college and its snow and ice contractor were both held liable for a slip and fall on campus sidewalks.

See what happened
  • What happened: a person was injured in a slip and fall on campus sidewalks at St. Lawrence College.
  • What the court found: the contractor "applied pure road salt to the sidewalks in very cold temperatures," without "ice melt or a sand mixture" for traction.
  • What it means: in Ontario, the snow contractor can be held liable alongside the property owner.

Questions

Will this protect me from a claim?

No tool can promise that. Snowmark keeps organized records of your work. It is not legal or insurance advice.

What if the app or my phone goes down?

It works without signal: visits save on the phone and sync later. Export regularly and keep your usual backups: any app can have outages.

Who owns the records?

You do. Export them any time.
